What is the fourth trimester?
The fourth trimester is a period coined by Dr. Harvey Karp as the first 3 months of a baby’s life after birth. Dr. Karp explains that babies are born too soon! Yes, you read that right. If given the choice, babies would definitely have voted for a few extra months inside the womb. So, the first three months post-birth – the Fourth Trimester – you should comfort baby with methods that feel like being back inside the womb such as The 5 S’s for Soothing Baby.
Postpartum Doulas…
NURTURE new families during these early weeks and months by caring for the whole family in their home following the birth or adoption. We provide non-medical support and companionship, while assisting with newborn care, breastfeeding and sibling adjustment. We assess the needs of the family and jump into action. Light meal preparation and light household tasks are some of the services we offer. We can also assist in helping new parents sort out some of their parenting choices and help them find the path that fits their family. We offer OVERNIGHT support to maximize sleep for new parents. We are sometimes referred as a “Night Nurse” or “Night Nanny.”
MBB lovingly serves families throughout the childbearing year. Our PASSION is to help you feel SUPPORTED and EMPOWERED. We aim to work ourself out of a job, as your sleep quality and confidence increases! Families THRIVE when support is present during the tender weeks and months after birth. Being there for you brings us great JOY!
Who will support you during the fourth trimester?
Our postpartum doulas are well trained and experienced. We provide emotional, physical, and educational support to mothers and families of newborns during the fourth trimester. The doula will nurture the family, provide education, assess the family’s needs, and provide community referrals which can meet any needs outside the scope of the doula. In today’s western culture, most new mothers have very little support. Holistic postpartum services are needed more than ever in this transitional period.
